Visitation night at Club Maenad... We went to the Cruxshadows show at Valentines tonight.
I'm sure once the overload of awesome has had the night to process, I'll come up with a means of expressing it, but for right now, all I can quite manage, is a bit of exhausted chair-boogie while I wait for myself to wind down enough that I can hope for sleep sometime tonight. Small venue, not a highly advertised show, so it wasn't crowded beyond belief, and oh, did Himself ever grace the dance floor... not uncommon for that band, so I'm told, but still -- Club Maenad bypassed the dance floor in favour of the main stage tonight! Valerie, the new guitarist is just about the cutest thing I've seen, and... well, let's just say there wasn't a single creature up there in the band, whom I'd have thrown out of bed.
But no, I can't get started now, or I'll just babble on all night, and never sleep.
This is me, being 'good' now. Dayum, that was a nice early birthday present!
I still have a love/hate relationship with their song Birthday though. I told Matt that he'd bloody well feel the same, once HE was 40 years old. He laughed at me, so I whacked him in the knee with my walker. That'll learn 'im. |

scribble me this Master, bless. My most precious ones, I have just updated Darkest before dawn. I expect to be warned by Graham Chapman that the story not get sillier. It no doubt will, however. Heavens. I finished the latest silly bit this morning, whilst under the influence of Robax tablets. I want to go to Vespers later... I am really happy with a light burden: my life as an Orthodox Christian. The work is going well, even though I have only begun. I think, by God's grace, that it will be a benefit. I have a much clearer vision of what the book was meant to be than when I first contemplated the endeavor. Needless to say, this is helpful. We shall see what comes of it all. God gives the increase. I merely obey and plow the land assigned to me. It is quite simple. It is not more than that. My goodness. I am on the verge of getting myself two coconut halves and banging them together. That is a good analogy for my writing: I am not riding a horse, I am banging two coconut halves together. I am not important, or knowledgeable... A fool for Christ, am I. Have I mentioned that I took muscles relaxants earlier today? I hope that you are having an excellent weekend. In Memorium Today is the one year anniversary of my father's death and it's important to me to mark that occasion here. For a year, I struggled to find the words to honor him, but they wouldn't come. Then, on Election Day, in the slightly less than an hour between voting and leaving for work, the words poured out. What follows is what I wrote that day, November 4, 2008. It was originally posted, in a very slightly different form (and under a different name,) on the political blog, dailyKos. ( So yes, it's about politics, and my father and me, and love. ) Current Mood: thoughtfulCurrent Music: June Carter Cash - Will The Circle Be Unbroken |

it's so wrong seeing 3am from this side Went to bed stupidly early since J had to and somehow I ended up waking up before his alarm, so I decided to just come in to work with him. He's busy baking all the pastries and muffins right now and I'm lazing around with a cup of tea and poking at some of Blue's fics that need beta'ing. Also apparently ranting... For all those who write Snape.... Dear MariellaI'm very attracted to unhappy men, and always end up being the strong one in the relationship. Can I ever stop getting too caught up in a partner and his problems? Her response... It's actually one of the issues I have with that much imitated chicklit bible, Pride and Prejudice. It's a novel written by a woman who, no matter how socially incisive her penmanship, hasn't yet grown up enough to understand that moody and unattainable means simply that. Darcy is a classic malfunctioning man, and the idea that he could be transformed into some Mills & Boon-style romantic hero by the barbs of a bright woman - no matter how persuasive actors like Colin Firth and Matthew Macfadyen have been in trying to make us believe it - is just schoolgirl fantasising. The sad truth is that the monosyllabic man in the corner of the bar isn't usually thinking deep thoughts about the future of mankind; he's a monosyllabic man in a bar. One thing you can't knock women for is their imagination. We can fantasise miserable Darcy into a totemic love god, a plethora of myopic musicians into babe magnets, and an actor outspoken about his determination not to marry into the sexiest man alive. What is wrong with us? Sometimes I wonder if it's women not men who need to learn that no actually means no. A positive step would be to work on your sense of humour. So many melancholic emotional misers are ripe for satire. Their finely honed act with its taint of injury is, once you recognise the stereotype, very amusing. Sexy can also be funny in a laugh-with, not laugh-at way. So next time a moody guy makes it plain that he'd like to come over and glower at you before ripping your clothes off, imagine a swell of cheesy violins and the voice of your most acerbic girlfriend whispering in your ear. Trust me, the sexiest man in the world is the one who's confident enough to take care of himself and emotionally mature enough to love you without persuasion. As you're clearly aware, a roller coaster is fun for the ride, but you wouldn't want to spend your whole life on one now, would you? |

fill my lamp with oil, O Lord Master, bless. My dearest ones, I was listening to Duruflé's Requiem and the In Paradisum started to play... This music is so sweet, so heavenly, it is almost unbearable. In the video below, at around three minutes ten seconds, my heart melts like wax, my spirit groans... In paradisum deducant te Angeli: in tuo adventu suscipiant te Martyres, et perducant te in civitatem sanctam Jerusalem. Chorus Angelorum te suscipiat, et cum Lazaro quondam paupere aeternam habeas requiem.May angels lead you into paradise; may the martyrs receive you at your coming and lead you to the holy city of Jerusalem. May a choir of angels receive you, and with Lazarus, who once was poor, may you have eternal rest. My neck is hurting me; I suspect it is because the weather has been cold. Ah, well. I applied a balm earlier, and shall do so again before going to bed, which will not be long from now. I read from Dorotheos of Gaza's Discourses and sayings this evening... I have so much to learn. sealed by love Master, bless. My dearest ones, I have spent part of the afternoon putting together a poster showcasing the 16 exquisite drawings (not counting the cover) that my gentle and gifted friend Ben, of whom I am unworthy, created for his booklet, The Quiet Professor. Is it not beautiful?
It is extremely inspiring, a wonderful comfort. It was truly an honor to work with him on this project (though 95% of the effort was his; I merely... was who I was and wrote the text!). As I told him, I am far, far from the holy beauty he illustrated. I aspire to it... His images will be there in my sanctuary, to encourage me. Every time I gaze upon his art, I am awed and really quite without words. All I can think of is a prayer I recite each morning, and often several times a day: O Lord, put Your seal upon my heart and my mouth, anoint my head and make me a good servant. Glorify me that I may glorify You, for Your name's sake let me not be put to shame, and have mercy on me, O Good One.My life is not my own... It is God's, and yours. the last drawing Master, bless. My most precious ones, it seems that I confused a few of you yesterday. The drawing I shared was not the happy ending I promised... Behold, here it is. The 16th drawing: the last drawing in The Quiet Professor. "I tell you the truth, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death."~John 8:51 "To him who overcomes, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God."~Revelation 2:7 This incredible image illustrates the joy and hope of my life: God's eternal embrace. It was inspired by a dream that a beloved one once had, and shared with me. She saw me in a garden, and my robes, instead of being black, were white. She awoke feeling very peaceful... It was a blessing to know this. I therefore asked Ben if he would depict the dream... I am so grateful to my dearest Ben for his friendship, dedication and affection. I shall be ordering a number of copies of The Quiet Professor, which will be my Christmas gift to loved ones. If you and I have corresponded now and then, I shall be sending you a copy. Anyone reading these words who would like to order a copy will soon be able to do so. I have encouraged Ben to get an etsy shop; he is in the process of setting it up. When it is open for business, I shall create a section for it on my website, logospilgrim.com. Writing awaits. God bless you, my heavenly treasures. Book review: Anathem by Neal Stephenson Anathemby Neal Stephenson science fiction 935 pages Normally, I don't cross-post my Cannonball Read (100 books in a year) book reviews from my blog to my LJ, but this is a newish book and I figure I might as well post the review here too. I've been putting off this review for a while because I feel a little like Wayne and Garth--not worthy. However I need to move on and so here I am, taking my best stab at it. I'm going to try to avoid too many spoilers, but some minor ones are inevitable, as are excessive italics, due to many made-up words. On a world known as Arbe, the study of science, mathematics and philosophy is limited to the avout, cloistered scholars who live in maths or concents (a concent is a large community often made up of more than one math) and who only interact with the Sæculum (secular world) on a limited basis during the Apert, a yearly period of ten days when the gates of the concent open and people from both the secular and mathic worlds can mingle. The concents are divided into groups: the Unarians (one-offs, whose members remain cloistered in the math for a year), the Decenarian (tenners, whose members are cloistered for ten years), Centenarians ( hundreders, whose members are cloistered for one hundred years) and the Millenarians ( thousanders, whose members are cloistered for one thousand years). Within the cloistered world are many different Orders who study different things and have many different philosophies, but all of them abide by the long-established rituals and rules of the Cartasian Discipline.( the rest of this lengthy review ) |

Hikaru No Go recs needed I'm finishing Hikaru No Go (manga). ............ Yes, you know what I'm going to say. :)
I need recs. Not any recs. Not long reclists (although I wouldn't mind looking through those). I need a few recs of the fics you think are the bestest of the best. Of course Hikaru/Akira is the most obvious pairing but I wouldn't mind Sai/Hikaru or anything to do with Isumi. Actually, any pairing will do as long as it's slash.
So, entice me? I'm ripe to be seduced. With must-reads. Please?
I prefer fics to be over 10K words, I also prefer them to contain plot + relationship + porn. Am no fan of PWPs and am not ready to believe in MPreg in Hikago universe.
Oh yes, and DJ are very welcome!

Crack Art Recs... One of my not-so-secret guilty pleasures is inflicting teh Snarry love on unsuspecting flist buddies who are neither artists or Snarry shippers but who, out of the goodness of their hearts, offer to do stick-art of any fandom, any pairing, any kink. Well, you know what they say about no good deed going unpunished. Which is why I'm certain tripperfunster is even now taking me up on my offer to beta any fandom, any pairing, any kink* by writing a 15K word crossdressing Lupin/Lupin and Spongebob/Patrick crossover fic set in the Blades of Glory Universe. Anyway, so I always ask these primarily Harry/Draco shippers for Snarry. And to add insult to injury, my prompt is usually mpreg. The results are always just plain awesome. And, seriously, all you people who say you cannot draw are thoroughly underestimating your talent. I give you: Snarby by grey_hunter. Snape/Harry and My First Barbie and Snarry by furiosity. Snape/Harry, mpreg. You'll need to scroll down, but you will not want to miss any of the truly amazing art. Consider these NSFW just to be on the safe side. *some, but not many, restrictions apply. |
